Johnson v Texas

     In June of 1989, Gregory Lee Johnson was outside the Republican National Convention protesting the polices of Ronad Reagan. Angerly chanting "America; red, white and blue; we spit on you," Johnson unfurled the American flag, doused it with kerosene, and set it on fire. He was then fined $2,000 and sentanced to one year in jail also he was convicted under a texas law against intentionally or knowingly descrating a state or national flag. The case took place on March 21st 1989 presenting the question whether his cinviction is consistent with the First Amendment. The supreme court found Johnson not guitly.
